Scouting around my 2nd kampong has been nothing but fun and fattening. I have to burnt the fats everytime I scout around. Make me guilty nia. However, being a considerate blogger for your possible boredom over my Nee Soon food-stops, here are the last bits from this infamous area and we shall move on to other areas.
So the food-stops in this post will be of walkable distance from my house. Neighbourhood mah. Take bus go like not very neighbouring liao. And I enjoy walking due to stinginess (save the few bus stops fare). What about you?
1. CHEF KIN HK WANTON NOODLES
And so the Executive Chef from Crystal Jade opened stall in a small coffeeshop right below HDB flat in Yishun. Nowadays so many F&Bs outlets opening in my area, how not to don't try right? Went for a Sunday morning run to the coffeeshop, got my takeout and strolled back home.
The stall is located at Block 632 Yishun Street 61. Just a stone's throw from Wisteria Mall.
HK Dumplings Mee 水饺面 $5
Mister said it tasted like fine noodles (细蓉面) but wasn't the best. He still misses the one we had at Hong Kong International Airport the last time we transit there. I had morsel of the noodles but wasn't my liking, probably because of the texture.
HK Wanton Soup 云吞汤 $5
The fillings were generous and I could taste the prawns in it. There were 6 pieces in the bowl and I had them all. The soup was light and tasty but Mister finds it bland. Okay lah. Light but not till the extent of plain water taste.
Fried Dumplings 炸水饺 $4
Excuse me. The moment I opened up this box, I was cursing and swearing. I bought the same thing from other stalls and the dumplings were bigger even if there was only 4-5 pieces and about the same price. And this one so small. Feel cheated. I won't recommend you to get their fried dumplings or wantons. Nope. Though it was good but still not worthy.
Verdict: First and Last. Probably you have different views but it doesn't matter. Everyone has their own preference.
2. LE MAN CURRY CHEE CHEONG FUN (CLOSED)
It triggered my curiosity when I saw the menu that read 'curry chee cheong fun'. Interestingly, I didn't realized its existence when I actually have been to that coffeeshop for take-outs.
Located at Blk 675 Yishun Ave 4 and the coffeeshop is facing the junction. You won't miss the stop with bus 807 from Khatib MRT.
Curry Char Siew and Roasted Pork Chee Cheong Fun $5
Honestly, I felt cheated by the supposedly chee cheong fun. It tasted like kway teow mee. Forget about that. The curry was spicy and good, with a good amount of tau pok and fish maw. And surprisingly, the char siew and roasted pork blended well with the curry. 👍
Mister had their Curry Noodles (not in the pic) and I chose yellow mee (best choice) because it absorbed the essence of curry easily. Because the portion given wasn't enough for him, he put in instant noodles in the balanced curry and microwaved it to finish up everything. Oh by the way, there was char siew and chicken in his curry.
Verdict: Probably if I ran out of choices, I would have the Curry Noodles.
3. LAVENDER NASI LEMAK
It keeps appearing on my FB (Meta) and Instagram feeds and the stall is near me, which means I just gotta try since it has one of Mister's favourite Nasi Lemak (I mean the dish itself, not saying he loves the one here). Apart from Nasi Lemak, they have other Thai food like Tom Yum soup, Mango Salad, Pineapple Rice and Basil Chicken.
They are located at Block 504 Yishun Street 51 inside Kopitiam. You can use your Kopitiam card for discounts. Take bus 805 (nearest) and walk in through the estates.
Lavender Rice with Chicken Wing $5
Their Thai-inspired Nasi Lemak had morsel of Mango salad and Keropok. The rest were what typical Nasi Lemak has except that Blue-pea rice. I did tried other stalls with Green colour rice. Now this is special, in my opinion.
Because the Mister came home late so the keropok just shrinked and lost its crispiness. He found it so-so overall but the chilli sauce tasted like the ones for BBQ chicken. It was damn spicy. He liked that.
Tom Yum Set $6
First sip, overwhelmed by the spiciness. Overall taste was on point. Even Mister said so (he likes actually when lemongrass wasn't overpowering 👍). There were prawns, tomatoes, chillies, fried chicken chunks and mushrooms. Had only morsels of rice to go with the soup and of course, the egg (because I'm on Keto).
Mango Salad $5
Never tried mango salad in proper and I'm intrigued by the peanuts and and anchovies in it. The sauce that went with it tasted salty and sweet. Like a mixture of Thai fish sauce and sweet sauce. Good to have and I could finish on my own for 1 meal. 👍
Verdict: Tom Yum Soup, which the spiciness was just right and Mango Salad that suited my Keto Diet, casually.
4. YES! TOMATO
Now this stall opening at neighbouring coffeeshop opens up the choices for us on Western Food. They have hotdog buns. Whenever we think about Hot Dog buns, it reminds us of IKEA's Hot Dog bun or even A&W's.
This stall is located at Block 431 Yishun Ave 1 (MSCP).
Ordered a takeout for their Half Spring Chicken that comes with a bun, fries and coleslaw. At $5.50, price is quite reasonable. It smells good and so is the crispiness on the outside (though a little oily which seeps through the paper carrier). I should have gotten chicken wings instead of spring chicken because it was tasteless on the inside and have to dip with chilli sauce.
Had their Scrambled Egg Chicken Hotdog set for $5. Damn normal taste and the scrambled egg (which you couldn't see in the pic) hidden underneath the sauce. Mister said I can just buy hotdogs n buns to make it at home. No mah... seldom see Western food selling hotdog buns thou and got a few variety to choose instead of just plain hotdog bun.
5. Handmade Hong Kong Dim Sum Bao Delight
Have been going for their dough fritters whenever we cooked porridge at home. Very crispy. And some other items like fried wantan, fried carrot cake, spring rolls and so on. 👍👍👍 Some times I can overspend just at their stall.
This stall is located at Block 417 Yishun Ave 11.
Verdict: Try at least 1pc of each item from their stall to find your favourite. But as usual, everything taste better while it is hot. And won't lost the crispiness.
The above 5 stalls were reviewed based on our own preference. So no right or wrong, just 口味不同. You really have to give it a try to know and not just blindly follow reviews. You might be missing out on something good (when we find them mediocre).

6. Sasco @ Khatib
Location: Block 813 Yishun Ring Road
Nearest MRT: Khatib
This space wasn't just a cafe run by seniors but they also sell merchandises and conduct baking courses if I never see wrongly (behind their counter). I called it the neighbourhood cafe for HDB Taitai to chill out.
Simple cafe settings and now because only 2 pax dine-in (as of 1 Nov 2021), their tables are arranged as per requirement. You can study or do your work there but limit to 3 hours during peak hours. I won't do that because no WIFI.
Picture myself in the cafe, reading a book, a latte and a slice of cake on the table. Cool. Lesser screen time and more of watching the world go by.
My Order: a Hot Chocolate, Croissant and Ham Cheese Donut for $10.
If you order a bread/rustic cake and a drink, $6.50 per set. I wanted a waffle but have to wait 25 minutes which I didn't get it. With the mixture, pour into the maker. It was that easy. Maybe they did not make the mixture in advance. Anyway, I didn't try.
The Hot Chocolate was bland but A for effort with that coffee art. Probably I would get hot tea next time. The food were decent, coming from Asanoya. For that pricing, couldn't ask for more.
Okay lah you can take Instagrammable pictures with the natural lighting (provided is not a rainy day). Why not? Enjoy!
