$50 Food Challenge | Salad Shops Series

Not sure if you peeps remember my last $50 Food Challenge way back in 2018 (wow I have not been doing for 3 years). If you haven't read, click on the link.

What I'm gonna share will not be how good the salad 🥗 shop is because most of them share the same characteristics: the salad bowl customization starting from the bases (mostly determine the price of your bowl), toppings/sides, proteins, garnishes, dressings or dips and some offers premium toppings (more of protein part). The differences would be what they offer (fixed menus, bento sets, the types of options for customization and etc) plus pricing from cheapest to expensive one. Also how I went about getting discount code from some shops for savings. As you know, salad bowls are expensive. Got 1 for 1 deals or discount code, just grab it.

Like me who is on Keto Diet, I opt for customization as I'm quite strict whether I'm on the track or not. Also taking in my colleague's advice that I should pick those cooked ones like mushrooms, meat, a few to name so that it would not cause irritable stomach problems.

CBD AREA

1. HeyBo
Location: 9 Raffles Place #01-04/05 Republic Plaza
Nearest MRT: Raffles Place
Total Cost: $9.52 (after 20% discount code applied, UP: $11.90)
Key Feature: Onsen Egg

Order thru their website for delivery or pick-up without going via 3rd party app. Money saving especially when it is walking distance from your office and also skipping the queue. What's more, you get 20% discount when you sign up for their newsletter. That is how I got it at less than $10 per bowl. Plus you can order in advance for the next day pick-up.

So I did a 'Build Your Bo!' with a Mixed Greens base, Baked Chilli Dory, Charred Broccoli, Grilled Mushrooms, Onsen Egg, Seed mix (garnish), Beetroot Chipotle (the dip) and Yuzu Soy sauce.

I really love mushrooms 🍄 of any types and so you will see mushrooms in my bowl if they have this option. The special item in my opinion will be Onsen Egg as compared to the usual hard-boiled eggs.

2. The Salad Corner
Location: 20 Cecil Street, #01-08, PLUS
Nearest MRT: Raffles Place station
Total Cost:
$8.00 ($6.50 + $1.50 for Smoked Duck - Premium toppings)
Key Features: Smoked Duck, Black Fungus

They served Warm Salad Box that cost a little more if you are concerned about your health (not too much cold stuff for your body). I chose the usual because cheaper option. Mixed Salad Base made more sense because I did not need to waste my 5 Basic Toppings on greens again and instead other stuff. Also they sell Bento Boxes at $7.50 each.

I chose Mixed Salad Base, toppings like peaches, broccoli and cauliflower mix, black fungus, mushrooms mix (cooked), tofu, added 1 premium topping which was smoked duck and Japanese sesame as dressing.

The peaches that I got for myself was so a canned food thing. Nah... not gonna opt their fruits if that is the case. Will waste my carbs away. And I enjoyed the crunch from Black Fungus. I seldom see this option at salad shops. 👍

Actually there were quite a lot of salad shops at Raffles Place but I decided to evenly spread a few to other blog posts. So checked out other posts for more salad shops.

3. The Salad Co. Sg
Location: 5 Cross Street, #01-38 Market Street Interim Hawker Centre
Nearest MRT: Telok Ayer
Website: https://saladco.sg/
Total Cost: $5.50

Because my office was just like a 5 mins walk to the hawker centre, I could actually just buy on the spot but since they have an option to pre-order via Whatsapp 9270 2790, why not? I could skip the queue, pay and go. Plus 20% off when you ordered via Whatsapp. Do it early before your pickup time. So another salad option for you peeps. I must say the beancurd was the type I fancy because it was lightly pan-fried. Like what I did for my tau kwa, soaked in salt water and pan-fried it.

4. Take-Out Salad
Location: 18 Yishun Ave 9, #02-60 Junction Nine
Nearest MRT: Yishun station
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Takeoutsalad.sg/
Total Cost: $6.80 (Regular)
Key Feature: Wakame

The choices of toppings wasn't that attractive to me, not because I'm on a Vegan and Keto diet challenge but it just didn't have much for me to choose, especially mushrooms. But managed to create one that suited this challenge. Okay, I'm surprised they had Wakame as one of the toppings which was my favourite. I added my own almonds by the way. A decent bowl and the price was right. Use Favepay to get cashback for next purchase.

5. Maki-San
Location: 930 Yishun Ave 2 #01-172, Northpoint City
Nearest MRT: Yishun
Website: https://makisan.com/
Total Cost: $7.90 (Little San Salad - DIY Salad)

You could order directly from them for delivery or pick-up at the nearest outlet from you. I'm lucky to have one at Northpoint, beside KFC (I kinda have a hard time looking for it thou).

Not a typical salad shop but sushi instead. I liked that some F&B business offered such options because some might want an appetizer before the main (salad before sushi). They have breakfast set too. So I created a bowl with usual mixed lettuce with avocado, shredded cucumber, roasted shimeji mushrooms, topped with seaweed sprinkles and drizzled with yuzu sesame.

So green on my bowl when I opened up and I nearly couldn't find my avocado but tasted morsel of it only. Oh I didn't like the yuzu sesame.

6. Yummy Tummy
Location: 930 Yishun Ave 2 #B2-115, Northpoint City
Nearest MRT: Yishun
Instagram: https://www.facebook.com/sgyummytummy/
Total Cost: $11.90
Key Features: Spicy Lobster, Bonito Flakes

They have Chicken/Beef, Salmon or Lobster for proteins. Of course I chose Lobster as it was still within the $50 budget. And they have Wakame too. I am so pleased with this bowl topped with bonito flakes. Overall taste was good with the spicy lobster meat bites, just a hint and went well with the roasted sesame dressing. 👍

Finally we made it with $50 and still got $0.38 savings! If you think about it, 6 days with 6 different salad shops each day, not too boring right? Okay fine. I know it is still salad but at least you buy from different places and different stuff to choose from. A saving grace.

Hope you like this $50 Food Challenge series. Comment what you wanna see for this challenge and I can start planning for another post. Enjoy!
