Back with another $50 Challenge and this time I'm doing a Taiwanese Style food that we could find at Northpoint. I miss travelling to Taiwan so much and gonna be 2 years since the last visit. I wanted to go there so badly.
In case you missed my previous $50 Challenges, below are the links:
BREAKFAST TIME
1. ALLEY WEI
Location: 930 Yishun Ave 2 #B1-151 Northpoint City
Nearest MRT: Yishun
Halal certification is progress (according to a friendly Muslim staff đ)
Total Cost: $8.80
Hot Soybean Milk $2.20, Youtiao $1.80, 6pcs Pan-fried Dumplings $4.80.
Very traditional way of drinking soybean milk from a bowl and dipping in the dough fritter like a local (I mean like Taiwanese). Or maybe čąćľć˛šćĄ feel. *cue JJ Lin's song* The soybean milk was good to have it hot and it was smooth without that 'sandy' or siap siap feel (when you never grind the soybean well).
The dough fritter was fluffy on the inside, crisp on the outside. When dipped into the soybean milk, it soften a little without losing the crisp too much. Great texture indeed.đđđ
I would say that the Pan-fried Dumplings were too small for my liking though the taste was good. Probably they didn't want it too much of a Japanese style gyoza but more of Taiwanese style? I won't recommend having this unless you really crave for it. There's bigger ones out there.
They have beef noodles which is also a popular Taiwanese food. I'm weirdo but I care about the noodles more than the beef itself. Oh ya the broth too.
LUNCH TIME
2. HEI LUN SHI TANG éťč˝ŽéŁĺ
Location: 598 Yishun Ring Road #B1-K12 to 14 Wisteria Mall
Nearest MRT: Khatib
Total Cost: $10.30 (éťč˝Žçťźĺ bento $8.80 + $1.50 mini soup set)
This stall sells Taiwanese Original Braised Pork Rice and Taiwanese style bento sets.
Decided on this to satisfy all at one go. 4 different types of meat, mainly pork and chicken, half a braised egg plus their daily soup which happens to be ABC soup. So perfect for this weather and with carrots in it, perfect for the eyes.
So actually you could have ala carte or add $1.50 for a drink or mini soup set with the bento. Up to you. Before I left, another customer asked if there was still daily soup which made me think that their soup must be good.
Mister was pleased with this bento set. A good mix of suan cai with the rice and the braised pork ĺ¤č. A good portion to satisfy the man. That's all it takes. He requested for Fried Chicken Bento the next round. Remember to drizzle with their braised sauce. đ
SNACK TIME
3. DEVIL CHICKEN ćśé鸥ć (from Taiwan)
Location: 930 Yishun Ave 2 B2-126 Northpoint City
Nearest MRT: Yishun
Total Cost: $8 (using Shopee Pay and Devil Chicken voucher, original price $10 for Bundle A)
Another brand of Fried Chicken Cutlet from Taiwan landed in Singapore few years back in 2019 and only opened an outlet at Northpoint in 2020. Only recently I knew its existence because I seldom check out B2 unless NTUC. Lol...
Got myself the Original Fried Chicken Cutlet and Sea Salt Fries. The Original tasted sweet and juicy tender meat at its right texture. Sometimes you overfried it to become so hard to bite. This one was just right. They adopted not cutting the cutlet like some other brands to maintain its crispiness and juiciness. The batter wasn't too thick, which I loved. And Mister agreed with me. đ The fries were normal so no further comments. They have new items in the menu which was button mushrooms. Love to try it one day.
DINNER TIME
4. FENG FOOD
Location: 930 Yishun Ave 2 #B1-156 Northpoint City
Nearest MRT: Yishun
Total Cost: $19.30 + $1.35 (7% GST)
Ordered Noodles with Pork Chop and Pickled Veggie $9.50, Hakka-style Golden Fried Chicken $6.90 and Asamu Tea (a.k.a Assam Red Tea) $2.90. I actually finished it all by myself without wastage. *A round of applause*
It was supposed to be pickled veggie a.k.a é
¸č but not é
¸ at all. Or maybe when it was put in the soup, the é
¸-ness washed away. Like a normal bowl of soup noodles (noodles QQ texture thou). Quite disappointed. The pork chop was alright though I prefer to be as a side than in the soup.
Need no comments on the Golden Fried Chicken a.k.a çé
Ľé¸Ą. The taste was good and I enjoyed every tender bite. đđđ
You would never go wrong with Asamu Tea (Red Tea) because it was good. I fell in love with Red Tea when I travelled to Kaoshiung for holidays years back.
They had other choices of Taiwanese style food in their menu which I wanna try but limited stomach capacity. Share with me your picks.

That's another round of $50 Challenge, catered you from morning till night. And left $2.25 from the Challenge. Please note that all my $50 Challenge are meant for 1 pax unless otherwise stated. But if some portions are big, I will let you peeps know and you can share. Make it worthwhile rather than wasting it.
Hope you like the above F&B outlets I have found. Just satisfy with the above first before Singapore and Taiwan open up for one another and we can all fly there again! See ya.
