My Amazing European Adventure ~ Lake Titisee, Germany | Travelogue

This post will be rather short because is a touch-and-go visit to Lake Titisee, Germany which is the highlight of this trip. I do wish for more of Germany, probably next time. But at least I stepped into the soil of Germany. So crossed borders for an hour or so and we arrived at Lake Titisee.

Lake Titisee is in the heart of the southern Black Forest (also known as the Hochscharzwald). The short stretch is filled with stores selling souvenirs, from the train station down to the lakeshore. A great place for some peace and quiet moments to enjoy the lovely scenery.

Trenchers Schwarzwald Hotel, a historic family-run 4-star hotel is situated right beside Lake Titisee in the Black Forest. Their rooms feature bright Mediterranean-style decor with many that offer a direct view of the lake. never get to stay but the hotel has captured my eyes with its nice architecture, looking like the colonial houses in Singapore.

First order of business: attend a Cuckoo Clock Making Demonstration arranged by the tour agency.

Cuckoo clocks are usually associated with Black Forest, Germany. The Black Forest is famous for its traditional craftsmanship and the production of high-quality cuckoo clocks for over 300 years. The craft of making has been passed down through generations, and many continue to produce them to date. Usually made from locally sourced wood like fir or linden, with the intricate carvings on the clock cases illustrating scenes from the Black Forest like wildlife, traditional houses, or forest landscapes. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted by skilled artisans. And the mechanical movements are powered for their operation through gears, pendulums, and bellows that create the iconic cuckoo sound. The cuckoo or characters will emerge from a small door or move around on an hour and a half hour with a cuckoo sound.

I bought cuckoo clock magnets for myself after the demonstration, although there isn't any music or sound but cheaper to have for a keepsake.

A variety of nice Cuckoo Clocks

The Cuckoo Clocks that I fancy like Chalet Clocks, Carved Clocks, Antique Clocks etc

Our lunch is included in the package and so here we are at Restaurant Zur Muehle. The restaurant was bright and cozy with a view. The artwork on the wall describes life at Lake Titisee during the winter time, covered with all the snow, and also other times when the scenery is just as great. 😍

For a start, we were served with the Soup of the day. Very plain and light flavor, or probably for us like no seasoning or tasteless. Have to finish right, if not they won't serve up the next dish. Please remember they don't serve all the dishes up at one go. Not like in Singapore, the best description will be Zhi Char stall, so just adapt to the culture.

We got the option to choose another main course rather than pork knuckles. So we both chose pork knuckles and fish & chips. So in Germany, how to miss out on having pork knuckles, right? And they cooked them in 3 different styles from roast, boiled to cured. Mister made up his own plate that consists of roast pork knuckles, sauerkraut, rice (weird), and french fries. I love sauerkraut so much and I don't know why.

Pork Knuckles, Fries, Rice and Sauerkraut

For myself, I had Fish and Chips with mixed vegetables. Sort of like half keto meal, don't you think? Let Mister try my fish and he said he should have chosen fish and chips too. He didn't like the pork knuckles because it was dry (for the roasted) and dense. Mine was perfect with no fishy smell and wasn't heavily battered type, though the portion was kind of small but good enough for me. #smalleaterworld

Fish and Chips

The pork knuckles were served up as a sharing portion and that explains why Mister made up his own plate. The following should be boiled style but at least they were softer in texture than the roasted.

Never leave Germany without a slice of Black Forest Cake. First of all, the berries were on the sweet and sour side, the cream/frosting had no flavor and the sponge cake has an alcohol flavor. And they don't have those chocolate flakes on the side. So different from what I had in Singapore.

We were offered to share the local beer with an elderly couple from our tour group because they just wanna try and won't be able to finish a bottle. As a beer person, unless is smooth. If not it tastes all the same to me.

After lunch was our free time before heading to France. So we walked around, enjoying the views, the houses, and especially the weather because once we return to Singapore, our jackets can keep for as long as the hot weather persists unless we travel to countries during their cold season.

Wishing for such a big house away from the city

As usual for every country I travel to, my shopping hauls will mainly be fridge magnets. Yes, I have a collection of fridge magnets from countries I went to and also from my family and friends who travel. I also buy ornaments or displays at times. Thereafter, Starbucks mugs. Snacks will be the last on my list.

Went into this shop Gutscher Schwarzwalder Spezialitaten to look around. They sell Black Forest Specialties like ham, bacon, sausage, honey, bread, and more.

The red bottle was so nice looking and I wondered if they used it to make Black Forest Cake because of that cherry in the picture. Googled this bottle and got to know it was a chocolate-cherry cream liquor and the alcohol content at 17%. It felt like Baileys, don't you think?
