The Secret to Perfect Homecooked Fried Rice + My Husband's Childhood Recipes

If there is one ultimate comfort food that instantly feels like home, it has to be a steaming plate of fried rice. But if you ask three different people how they cook it, you’ll probably get three completely different answers! In our household, fried rice isn't just a quick way to clear out the fridge, it's a trip down memory lane. Recently, my husband took over the wok to recreate two nostalgic fried rice recipes he grew up eating as a youngster, alongside our go-to classic version. Watching him cook reminded me that the best meals don’t require fancy ingredients; they just require a few time-tested techniques. Whether you're craving a rich, glossy Kicap Manis version or a classic shrimp stir-fry, here are the absolute must-do steps and golden rules from our kitchen to yours to ensure your fried rice turns out perfectly separate, fluffy, and packed with flavor every single time! 3 Different Recipes, 3 Different Colours of Fried Rice Master Tip #1: The Fried Rice Foundation...

Food Review | Privé Wheelock (Vegan/Vegetarian)

Another belated birthday dinner with my ladies and this time, I chose Privé because this restaurant serves Vegan and Vegetarian food and suits my girlfriends who wanna eat healthily one of them trying not to take too much animal meat but can accommodate most of the time (that's before I guess).

What's more? This restaurant uses Plant-based items and Impossible™ Meat for vegan/vegetarian selection in the menu and also at other outlets, you can bring your pets along when dining in. Cool!

MUCHOS NACHOS (VEGAN)

If you need a small bite in between your meal, probably try these nachos with an option to top up with avocado or Impossible™ minced meat. But I would love it even more if they can separate the wet items from the nachos so that they won't be soaked and soften it. The crispiness will be gone.

SALMON POKE BOWL (CLASSIC)

In the bowl were brown rice, avocado, purple cabbage, pickled carrots, cucumber, edamame, cherry tomatoes, green onions, nori seaweed, and roasted sesame dressing. The smoked salmon was on point for an overall balance taste (sweet and savoury).

Guess what's that covered with black and white sesame seeds? AVOCADO. Probably they didn't want to mess up the overall presentation of my Poke bowl. But I kind of cringe when it was first served up.

TRACY'S FAVOURITE SALAD (VEGAN)

I ran out of descriptions for salads because they are typically the same with different ingredients to make up one. But the portion was definitely bigger than mine (worth the price), with all the nutritional food (more than mine too) all on one plate.

SPICY PENNE PRAWN ARRABBIATA (CLASSIC)

One of my girlfriends ordered this that was cooked with basil, cherry tomatoes, zucchinis, sliced garlic and bird's eye chilli. At the normal spicy level, she commented the overall was fresh and I agreed because the prawns were fresh and springy. But the penne was okay, to be honest. I would prefer spaghetti or linguine though.

TIRAMISU (VEGAN)

Forgotten about Tiramisu during my Europe trip but I'm sure there is always a next time. Meanwhile, I'm curious about vegan Tiramisu. I mean they use plant-based cream cheese to make, along with espresso, rum, and sponge of course.

But both my girlfriend and I agreed that there isn't any taste of rum but more of coffee (espresso). The base is dark chocolate which we taste the bitterness (don't how much % of cocoa). And that cream layer was smooth, bringing a little sweetness.

This restaurant makes me miss Europe (again) because of the seat setting facing the outside, watching the world go by with a cup of coffee or wine and letting the day go by without stress. Enjoy!

Thank you, ladies!
