My Home Makeover 2023

My colleague once told me that on the 7th or 8th year of staying in your current home, you should either:

• do some minor makeovers, or
• buy and move to a new place.

And so she did Option 2. But I really don't like the idea of shifting because I have too many things to pack (unlike him who smirks at me because 80% of the things at home are mine). That's the problem with staying in comfort for too long with the accumulation of useless stuff. So the best way is to go for Option 1.

I already have in mind what to replace:

• the 2 wooden toilet doors;
  
• the hanging rack in the service yard.

1. CHANGING TO A BIGGER SOFA SET

Actually, I did something already last year 2022 and that was changing our living room sofa to an L-shape sofa bed with storage space (more space for me to store things) and headrests. This set was bigger than our old sofa bed and Mister was very happy with it. Now the old one became mine in my private room. Shall do another post about my private room at home.

2. REPLACEMENT OF TOILET DOORS

I don't understand why HDB will even use wooden doors and the cost added was more expensive than what I'm gonna change now. And humidity level in toilets will cause the doors to rot. My fault too as 1st time home lease for the lack of knowledge and research on what to look out for when getting an HDB flat.

After contacting the 2nd supplier that I found online randomly, they responded and were proactive in replying to my Whatsapp inquiry. So I chose them instantly. But first, we have to get the door frame repainted before the installation takes place. Initially wanna do just the toilet door frames but ended up painting another 3 rooms' door frames too. Now they all have a new coat of paint! Save time in case I wanna change room doors too in the future.

The supplier sent their guy over to do a quick measurement for the door fabrication of my selected Slide & Swing Doors with no track. Got a little excited because we are halfway there.

On installation day, I thought it would be in the morning or afternoon but my slot was in the evening. But they came earlier than the stipulated time so HOORAY! Finally got both doors replaced and loved it. It made my toilets look a little more spacious and bright than before. Looking so 3-D now.

3. REPLACEMENT TO AUTO LAUNDRY SYSTEM

Firstly, I spoilt it in the 1st or 2nd year of living in this flat. Because I really didn't know how to control it and that belt just tangled when I let loose. Have been tolerating it for a good 8-9 years and now, I decided to change. One that can cater to my needs without having to occupy too much of the service yard space with an additional dryer.

I got myself the Evo Series Solar Pro and hopefully, this new laundry system can ease my woes during raining season where our laundry takes a little bit longer to dry. No more pulling up and down the heavy load of hanging clothes like flag raising ceremony. The auto lifting isn't noisy at all as compared to the manual HDB ones. And I can set the height that I want so that I don't need to adjust every time I use it. And the remote control has a magnetic surface so you can put it on your fridge to prevent misplacing somewhere. 

The only thing that could be better will be more poles because I do my laundry once a week and it can be quite a lot of hanging. But so far from my 1st use (on installation day itself), it is enough for 2 pax of laundry, given that my blanket and bedsheets occupied 1 extended pole each at times when I need to wash them.

4. REPLACEMENT OF CEILING FAN

This ceiling fan had served us a good 9 years and because right now we are experiencing super hot weather, this fan has past its time and we resorted to switching on the aircon which is costly for the electricity bill. So Mister decided to change the new one, including the one in our dining area. FINALLY! No more sweating while we have our meals.

We went back to the same lighting shop 9 years ago and there were good deals so lucky us. On the spot, I placed another order for my parents' place too as their living room is way too hot even a few stand fans.

I am so happy with our purchase. This DC Fanco Tributo 56" Ceiling Fan has 3 different light mode, 6 different wind speed and is also reversible too. Got both the same Wood color and model. The same goes for my parents. Save the hassle of choosing.
