Stella's Christmas Traditions to Continue
First of all, let me clarify this. I'm neither Christian or Catholic or any religion. I'm a free thinker but there is no way to stop me from loving Christmas. Since when we were kids, my dad would get me and my bro to put up Christmas tree with real and fake wrapped presents underneath together, write Christmas cards to our uncles and aunts, buy fruitcakes, have Christmas stockings hanged on our room's window (woke up to more mini presents for me and my bro), held BBQ party at home and invited my cousins over, and at times they would stay over at our place after that. Loved unwrapping presents (even now too) with my bro back then because it was always toys from uncles and aunties. These were the most fun and memorable times of Christmas for me even till today.
So for 41 years now, I still loved Christmas so much. It is a Season of Joy, Gifting and Feasting! And this year 2022, I began my Christmas vibes on 1 Nov 2022. Some thought I'm crazy but nope I'm not. Next year Lunar New Year will be in January and I'm expecting those retailers to change to LNY vibes real soon, probably mid December. With that, I decided that Stella's Christmas begins in November and I don't care!
I have shared previously about the traditions of Lunar New Year that I would continue (read HERE) and now is Christmas! There are 3 of them and I can't wait to get started.
1. WRITING XMAS GREETING CARDS
![]() |
Buy a box of 16 or 24 cards to last at least 4-8 Christmas for me. Worth it! |
All these writing of greeting cards (whether LNY or Xmas) all started from young as usual. I don't wanna break the tradition even after I got married. Don't preach anything. These are thoughts and effort put forward to the recipients unlike those WhatsApp stickers, emoji and texts. You write them out and not typing them. I think for some people, they may have forgotten how to write, all thanks to technology. After all, we started from writing first before all these tech thingy invaded our life. And I realized there are lesser places that sell greeting cards (except for Popular Bookstore). Well... how pathetic! We should embrace both the old and the new tech way altogether. Don't break it all up.
2. PUTTING UP XMAS TREE

I do wish I have a Dior tree filled with Dior stuff. Wishful thinking. |
In 2021, I finally got myself a Xmas tree after having our own home for 7 years. Before that, just all the decorations around the house. Mister said no need to get too much decors for the tree, just make it simple since it already came with some in-built decors and fairy lights. And your truly bought 2 snow angels to hang on it. What is Xmas without a Xmas tree, right? Now this is the 2nd year seeing my tree at the same corner. Loving it and this is how it should be with all the presents underneath. Wasn't a big hassle to keep after that though I wish I can place it there all year round because it looks just so beautiful.
3. WRAPPING ALL THE PRESENTS

Christmas Wrappers are so nice and colourful. |
Don't preach about gift wrappers being environmentally unfriendly. Every year I will open my presents carefully so that I can recycle the wrappers as much as possible. Although I know where to get the cheapest and nicest wrappers. Or if the retail stores have free wrapping services, go for it too. You can also go for stuff that comes with the nicest gift box to write the name and greetings on it. Oh I will use Starbucks paper bags to wrap presents because it looks decent.
I like nice surprises! I don't like to know straight what I'm getting. Kids love it and so do I, although I'm no kid anymore. So if you are gifting me for birthdays or Christmas, please make some effort. If you want to talk about saving the trees, then our country should ban gift wrappers printing throughout. No one is to sell gift wrappers too. Is that good enough for you? Then it would be more costly to produce nice gift set boxes but less hassle. I know lah save environment but which do you prefer?
Everybody has their own way to keep their own traditions on festive seasons and you don't have to agree with mine because you are not me.
Hope you enjoy this post and is 1 December 2022. The start of Christmas month!!! Cheers.
