Singapore Reimagined through A Local Scenic Traveler’s Eyes

They say Singapore is small, fast-paced, modern and in foreigners' eyes: man-made. But if you slow down and change your angle, it’s also incredibly scenic with histories going back to the 1800s - 1900s. And not just that, it is a free walkable tour. Or maybe you can cycle around too by spending a small amount to rent a bicycle. As a local Singaporean, it’s easy to take the streets we walk every day for granted. But lately, I’ve been picking up my camera again to look at my home country through the eyes of a traveler. No rushing, no text-heavy guides. Just Singapore, reimagined. By Your Truly. Food Review | Tampopo

Stumble upon Tampopo when I was in town w the ladies and we made a deal to try out the next time we hang out. But since I'm in town w the husband, might as well try it out first. To save their calories from lousy stuff.

Tampopo is a family style Japanese restaurant that aim to serve with the best quality ingredients and is the pioneer of Kurobota (black pig) and has since named one of the best ramen in Singapore.

They have 2 restaurants in Singapore at Liang Court and Takashimaya. We visited the one at Takashimaya.

IKA KARAAGE $11.00

This dish is tasty yet salty and have to go along with rice to minimize that saltiness. However this deep fried squid was good and chewy. Fresh ingredients indeed. Didn't squeeze the lemon as I always feel that it did not much help in enhancing the taste, like in Fish N' Chips.

KANI RAMEN $18.50

It didn't look that appetizing at one glance. But don't judge by its look.

This is how it looks after mixing it. Lots of crabmeats you can find plus the noodles were well-cooked. The thicken soup base taste like sharkfins we had in a Chinese banquet. A good choice indeed. The egg was added in from their Mini Pork Rice ($4.80). The husband had the Ika Karaage with the Pork Rice.

NABEYAKI UDON $13.50

Served in a mini hotpot, the broth was light and clear with just few ingredients to bring out the taste further. A light meal that simply ideal for weight watchers and comfort food during winter time. Definitely filled you 80% full towards the end. Unless you are a big eater.

Conclusion: Pricey but worth it once awhile.
