Birthday Bliss: Our Korean Lunch at Gochu!

Gochu Korean Dining at Orchid Country Club Twenty-seven may be a date on the calendar, but April 27th was all about me! To celebrate me this year, I headed for a short holiday to South Korea with my husband, and we ain't over with Korea even when the holiday is over. We headed to Gochu Korean Dining at Orchid Country Club for my birthday lunch.  The dining area with a golf range view He initially suggested Japanese food at Himawari, but you know how it is when a new restaurant opens in a familiar spot, curiosity wins every time. Gochu Korean Dining now occupies the space, sporting a unique, cave-like interior that I was dying to check out in person.  Luckily, it was a Monday and the lunch crowd wasn't too overwhelming. Since it was just the two of us, we managed to snag seats right at the counter. Water arrived almost immediately while we seated and browsing through the menu. In true fashion, I hadn't done any "homework" before visiting; I love going into a new ...

[[CLOSED]] Broken Egg [The Egg Drop Version] || Food Review

This shop unit used to be THE MOMENTS where I always get my Black Tea from and also the nearest bubble tea shop from my office. Now replaced by newly opened, BROKEN EGG. They have a range of bubble teas to choose from so I can still satisfy my craving for Black Tea. Their main menu will be sandwiches like Egg Drop from Korea. Other than that, they have bubble teas, tiramisu and dessert. A mixed of Korean and Taiwanese feel in my opinion, or even Italian feel (hahaha... tiramisu). Limited seating capacity for this small shop so mostly take-outs for me. Pardon the work desk background.

TIRAMISU (FROM $6.90 ONWARDS)

Traditional Tiramisu $6.90

I love cheesecake and tiramisu a lot and even made them at home last time. So whenever I see either of them out there, I will not hesitate to get one (but still depends on the price too). This decent piece of Tiramisu, which I can cut into 4 portions (squarish), kind of soft for me, like the cream was more than the ladyfingers. But the overall taste was good. Got my 2 colleagues to try too and they said it was good. They have different flavours like Taro, Berry, a few to name. I got my personal bias for tiramisu and is the one at Saizeriya. Hands down the best Ice Cream Tiramisu I ever had.

EGG BOMB WITH TEA SET $5.90

Egg Bomb with Tea Set $5.90

Thick layer of Scrambled Eggs

The bread wasn't toasty enough although with that buttery taste. Just scrambled eggs and cheese, topped with ketchup and mustard maybe. A decent sandwich with a cup of Hot Assam Black Tea. Depending on what drinks you choose, you may need to top up a little more. Price was right but I thought I could do this at home too, probably much cheaper.

TARO BALLS GRASS JELLY DESSERT $3.50

This decent dessert bowl has Taiwanese feel with taro balls, boba and grass jelly. Because they didn't have red beans at that moment, so replaced with coconut jelly (or white boba, for you to choose). All ingredients bathing in the milk tea base which was kind of sweet. Plus a little disappointment with their taro balls that weren't chewy as I thought it would be.

CHEESE BLACK TEA 奶盖 $2.90 (MEDIUM)

My love for black tea never dies. The tea taste in place but not really the cheese though it was on top. It literally turned into a milk black tea instead, probably with the help of the cheese? Or cheese milk black tea? I'm not a bubble tea lover so please correct me on the taste for such cheese tea.

Hope you enjoy this mediocre version of Egg Drop that is affordable (most of their items in the menu) and have rooms for improvement. Hopefully it can succeed in their field of Egg Drop sandwiches under the name of Broken Egg. Even though they wasn't so ready when first started, like not ready to serve at breakfast time, grass jelly not ready during noon time and unavailability of some tiramisu flavours out of the many in their menu. Understandable. Cheers!
