The Secret to Perfect Homecooked Fried Rice + My Husband's Childhood Recipes

If there is one ultimate comfort food that instantly feels like home, it has to be a steaming plate of fried rice. But if you ask three different people how they cook it, you’ll probably get three completely different answers! In our household, fried rice isn't just a quick way to clear out the fridge, it's a trip down memory lane. Recently, my husband took over the wok to recreate two nostalgic fried rice recipes he grew up eating as a youngster, alongside our go-to classic version. Watching him cook reminded me that the best meals don’t require fancy ingredients; they just require a few time-tested techniques. Whether you're craving a rich, glossy Kicap Manis version or a classic shrimp stir-fry, here are the absolute must-do steps and golden rules from our kitchen to yours to ensure your fried rice turns out perfectly separate, fluffy, and packed with flavor every single time! 3 Different Recipes, 3 Different Colours of Fried Rice Master Tip #1: The Fried Rice Foundation...

Food Review | Di Wei Teochew Restaurant

Not sure when was the last time we came to Seletar Aerospace Park after reading from news about this new hipster place. But remembered we had dinner at Wheeler's Estate the first time. The food there was expensive and mediocre. Stumbled upon another one and that was Di Wei Teochew Restaurant. So decided to try one day. And that one day was on the last day of 2017. Wasn't crowded (only us and another couple) and so we can have some quiet dining in the restaurant.

Before we came here, did a search on their menu. Price about the same as other Chinese restaurants but having said that, we took the set menu for 2 that consists of a 6-course meal. At $49.80, it wasn't quite costly as the one we had at Peach Garden (click here). But depends on what they offered so can't compare. Once awhile, just splurge on something that will make you happy.

Fish Maw and Crab Meat Soup

A lot of fish maw bites but hardly see the crab meat. Was good to have since we didn't have it for a long time. Now I miss sharkfins soup.

Crispy Prawn Roll with Chilled Jelly Fish in Plum Sauce

This is a mini cold dish which is commonly seen on banquet table. It has been long since I had jelly fish and loved its crunch.

Sliced Braised Duck

It didn't draws me when it was served but no grumps for this dish. Probably I prefer roasted over braised. It was okay overall, not too dry nor flavourless.

Fried Prawns with Chives

A decent plate of vegetables with crunchiness coming from the chives and springiness from the prawns. Quite fresh but I tasted even better ones.

Olive Fried Rice

Not many people fancy Olive Fried Rice but for me personally, I love it. Fragrance and tasty yet you won't feel thirsty after that.

Orh Nee (Yam Paste with Gingko Nuts)

The yam paste was good. You can taste the tiny bits of yam in the smooth paste. Drizzled with lard oil, you get the aftertaste with every mouthful. From the photo you can see the layer of oil on the surface. Thumbs up!

There are other bars and restaurants around Seletar Aerospace Park so if you wanted Chinese cuisine, I guess this is the only one here at the moment (hope for more in future).
