FanLai M2 | Product Review

The first time I come across this machine was through a Youtuber who bought it at Taobao. I found it quite interesting and went Shopee to check out the price. Was doubtful about the quality that I would get so put the thought behind me. And one night I was watching Wang Lei's FB Live, he was selling this machine that comes with 4 meal kits for $239.

Why I decided to buy? Mister thought that I just want to support Wang Lei. Nope! Because it had Singapore Safety Mark which gave me the assurance for safe use in our home. Imagine you buy directly from China and who is going to guarantee safe use and what about the warranty if the machine needs repair or part replacement? Plus Chinese panel or probably incompatible plug for Singapore use. Probably cheaper if you buy direct from Taobao or other online platform, but I still feel a sense of secure when I buy from Singapore because they have service center locally too although the product comes from China.

FRIED RICE

We received it on 30 April and we couldn't wait to start using while getting use to the functions. Started with a simple Fried Rice. That is the basic dish which this machine should be able to handle. The method will be the same as over the stove.

Based on our experience, you cook the egg mixture with the rice if you want it to blend perfectly like egg fried rice, yellowish rice coated with the egg mixture.

BEEF CURRY

Our 2nd time using this machine only and we went ahead to cook Beef Curry. Although the curry making is quite a hassle over the stove but we made it with the machine with a little lesser effort! Mister had it with rice and I had it with my lettuce. I'm weird I know but it tastes good! Keto Diet please.

Taiwanese 3-Cup Chicken

Trying out the meal kit that comes with the machine. It further simplified my chores on preparation. So detailed with instruction on how to cook, what and when to put in the ingredients. And the ingredients were tagged with the sequence. Meal kits like this is a saviour for working professionals. I love such creation.

Please look for me for such collaboration. My email at iamstellachen@ymail.com. Thank you all in advance.

Mock Char Siew

I have tried their PanFried function for my Mock Char Siew and it cooked perfectly. But not for flat food like 斋鹅. Will try more of other stuff using the same function again. It makes everything more convenience by not changing from the machine to the stove or vice versa. Same concept before having this machine but less work.

I have compiled a short clip which I took while using my M2. To see is to believe whether M2 is good or not. Honestly, nothing is perfect and some areas for improvement may be required. But I like the fact that having homecooked food when I get back home after work is possible without much hassle (I know take-outs or dine-outs are even more convenient). Just need to do your preparation in advance and throw them in to cook.

Of course before you decide, I have summed up the Pros and Cons below after few attempts of using M2 (based on the video above) and still trying to get the hang of it so give me some time and I shall share more of my experiences and dishes on my Instagram @thelengguskitchen so do follow my cooking platform (@thelengguskitchen) for more updates.

PROS AND CONS

THE PROS:

  1. Easy washing. Just dismantle into 4 parts: the glass cover on top, the lid, the stir bar and the pot.
  2. Change method or mode easily while cooking in progress;
  3. Less oily and smoky, less work on cleaning the surrounding after you are done;
  4. Singapore Safety Mark so to ensure safe use in Singapore;
  5. English panels for easy reading. No need to translate from Chinese to English. But spotted a spelling error on no. 13 Slow-Cookded Soup. It should be Slow-Cooked Soup.
  6. Speedy cooking as it took me lesser time than over the stove to complete cooking, cleaning and washing altogether.

THE CONS:

  1. The machine needs a little assistance to scrap some ingredients from the side. Great that they include a cooking spatula for our convenience;
  2. If you are cooking noodles, some noodles tend to stuck on the side of the stir bar. You can pause, open up the lid and remove them to continue cooking with the rest;
  3. Experienced a little splatter especially when there is a lot of liquid in the pot (depends what method or mode you using). That is why they have a glass cover to prevent. Other than that, it is still okay, given the height of the entire machine;
  4. Lack of wok hei taste. Probably you can preheat the pot (PREHEAT function) first, put on High Heat and pour in the cold oil to try and see if it works;
  5. A little too high of the machine to see how is the cooking progress. Have to tip-toe to see and also use a torchlight to shine to check the progress. Unless you pause and open up the lid to see. Got height and blind spot. Haha... but I can understand because that can prevent spillage or splattering. Just that I'm short.
So is up to you to decide if you wanna try this out. I just find it fun and for lazy people like me, I save my effort on stir frying. Just throw in the necessary into the pot at the right time. While it stirs, I can do wash up instead of leaving it till the end. Save time.
