The Secret to Perfect Homecooked Fried Rice + My Husband's Childhood Recipes

If there is one ultimate comfort food that instantly feels like home, it has to be a steaming plate of fried rice. But if you ask three different people how they cook it, you’ll probably get three completely different answers! In our household, fried rice isn't just a quick way to clear out the fridge, it's a trip down memory lane. Recently, my husband took over the wok to recreate two nostalgic fried rice recipes he grew up eating as a youngster, alongside our go-to classic version. Watching him cook reminded me that the best meals don’t require fancy ingredients; they just require a few time-tested techniques. Whether you're craving a rich, glossy Kicap Manis version or a classic shrimp stir-fry, here are the absolute must-do steps and golden rules from our kitchen to yours to ensure your fried rice turns out perfectly separate, fluffy, and packed with flavor every single time! 3 Different Recipes, 3 Different Colours of Fried Rice Master Tip #1: The Fried Rice Foundation...

3 Crab Delicacy Seafood Garden | Food Review

The plan was if I go back office for the week, we can go MBS for dinner on V Day but still, my boss asked me to WFH! A total mood spoiler. I just wish to go back office for work and not WFH. OMG!!!

Long story short, change of plans to go somewhere near home (definitely not going Northpoint). So Mr Google found me to a list of F&B outlets at Orchid Country Club. After shortlisting 2 of them (Japanese and Seafood), we went for the latter because Mister was intrigued by Fried Pigeons. And off we go for our simple V Day dinner by the driving range. Dine with a view.

BLACK PEPPER CRAB $70

Instead of the usual Chilli Crab, Mister suggested having Black Pepper Crab for a change. The paste was good but the crab was kind of small (priced by weight) and so were the crab claws. But nevertheless satisfied his seafood indulgence. He does know how to enjoy crabs more than me from the way he savoured his food.

FRIED PIGEON $7 EACH (MIN. 2)

We smirked when it was served because it looked so much like small skinny chicks. Okay lah. The saving grace was its crispiness and also to go with the salt (or Garlic Salt) if you find it tasteless on the meat part (but it was okay for us so no need the salt part for us). This one here was more like quail than pigeon. Omg... fried chicken more meat than this. Nah... I'm not gonna try anymore pigeons or quails if I ever see it in menu. Unless trying out those in Hong Kong.

CRABMEAT FRIED RICE $16 (SMALL)

Mister was anticipating on this fried rice and in his opinion, it was okay with a little wok hey taste plus 粒粒分明. Some crab roe and crabmeat in it. For me, it was mediocre despite the above mentioned because tasteless and I didn't get any flavour coming from the crabmeat. Haiz... kind of disappointing.

Oh ya I overheard other customers saying only one chef in the kitchen (14.02.2022, Valentine's Day) so dishes delayed. But when I went off, I saw 2 humans inside, probably one of them do preparation? Not sure. Considered lucky for us because all our orders were served even when other customers came before us. Maybe is just 2 pax servings. Easy and fast.

THE DRIVING RANGE VIEW

Located inside Orchid Country Club #01-04, you get this view (if not many golfers) or just golf balls flying into the range (if you have super good eyesight). If not, just enjoy your food and the companion of whoever you come with. And probably you get to have something nicer than what we have picked for our V Day dinner. Individual preference.

Another new place explored but definitely not worth in my opinion because better ones were all out there. Very competitive. Oh ya 3 Crab only charge GST (no service tax) so for once I like that.

Probably I will come again to Orchid Country Club for Japanese food which is right above. Till then. Cheers and Happy Valentine's Day!
