Day Out with the Folks | Orchard Road

The purpose of bringing the folks to Orchard Road was to clear the remaining Takashimaya vouchers, which means shopping time with the folks at Takashimaya Departmental Stores. But also to get them out of the house instead because too much time at home makes them senile because not much of activities for them.

On a hot, sunny Saturday and while waiting for them, I went for a walk again at Emerald Hill. If you miss my past post on Emerald Hill, click here to read more. Not gonna talk about it too much in this post.

They took a bus to Orchard Road which took them longer to reach than the train, just for the sake of a nice view along the way. It was 11+ in the morning so took them to Triple One Somerset for lunch at Han's Cafe. My old man wanted Western Food so the most familiar, old-school Western food would be Han's. We used to go occasionally when we were still kids. Wanna beat the lunch crowd but surprisingly, quiet. Probably because the seating capacity was a lot. Ordered for all of us a set meal each that comes with a drink and soup of the day. The bill comes out to $50+ in total. So not worth it.

Hainanese Pork Chop with Rice

My mum's meal. Looks delicious but tastes mediocre. I'm not sure why their food taste so bland. Okay lah... the pork chop wasn't overcooked but not flavourful at all.

Aglio Olio with Chicken & Fungi

Now my turn. Was looking forward to my Aglio Olio since I haven't been eating this for a long time. A complete disappointment for me. Not garlicky nor peppery. One word, tasteless. Tender chicken and al dente pasta were the saving grace. Super healthy in a way without much flavour. Sighz.

Spaghetti with Grilled Chicken

My dad's meal. Same verdict as the above. The appearance and presentation were good but not the taste. The sauce was kind of diluted and not tomatoey thick enough.

Black Forest Cake

Although I didn't have this (takeout for them), I'm expecting it to be good because how much failure can a slice of cake be. And this is one of my favorite cakes on earth (and also tiramisu too).

My old man still thinks Jack's Place is more affordable than Han's. This tells a lot about them not dining out for a long time. Not that I don't want to bring them out for a meal but they don't want to because expensive. Next time shall bring them to Jack's Place at JEMS. To me, both places are expensive in their own way. At least Jack's Place will taste better than Han's.

Along Devonshire Road

We take our time to have our lunch, chatting and gossiping before we start our walk around Orchard Road. Walked out of Triple One Somerset, in the direction of Cineleisure. Spotted some old shophouses along Devonshire Road. We loved spotting unique, old shophouses all over Singapore and overseas too.

Annual Giant Christmas Tree at Takashimaya

Under the hot sun, we walked from Cineleisure to Mandarin Gallery and to Takashimaya. On the way, took some touristy photos. At least when you look back on the photos, you know you have been there. Especially for your folks. It's been a long time since their last visit to Takashimaya. So crowded at the basement and every other level. And how to miss a giant Christmas tree? This year is Chanel! Loved how it looked in white and gold.

Roadside flowers

We got our stuff and cleared all the Takashimaya vouchers. Bought random stuff like kitchen knives set and thermal flasks. Things are so expensive at the departmental store so please don't ever gift others Takashimaya vouchers. Continued our walk to Orchard MRT station a.k.a ION Orchard. Took a photo for them with Tangs as the backdrop with this bed of flowers.

This year's Christmas decoration outside ION Orchard is from Louis Vuitton. I remember last year or the year before was Dior and I purposely went there to take photos of it. Now Dior's Christmas decoration is at MBS so when I go pick up my bag, I shall go take photos again!

Enjoy the Shorts I took on my YouTube channel now. Cheers.
