Taste Sensations: Reviewing PAGI SORE 【Indonesian Cuisine】

Another new food place checked with my colleagues in wet weather. Thanks to them for introducing me to Indonesian cuisine that is just opposite our office. Also depends on whether I want to spend or not because I'm a stingy lady when it comes to food.

In case you miss it, the past posts on other food places my colleagues brought me to:

PAGI SORE
88 / 90 Telok Ayer Street,
Far East Square,
Singapore 048470
Nearest MRT: Telok Ayer
Average Spending per pax: $28+

Traditional Gong and Angklung

Pagi Sore serves Indonesian Cuisine since 1989 (that's 34 years now) with the heritage recipes passed down by the founder Chef Liyana Kwan. Now helmed by her son and 2nd generation, Chef Park, their unique selling point through authentic Indonesian spices with Chinese cooking techniques draws patrons every single day. That explains why you should make a reservation ahead because most of the time will be a full house.

The restaurant is in a simple setting yet filled with what describes the Indonesian culture, like displays of Gong and Angklung.

IKAN GORENG BALADO 👍

Ikan Asam Pedas

This is the crispiest fish I ever had and even with the chili on top, it didn't lose the crispiness on the outside and also wasn't too dry on the inside. The flavor and spiciness strike a balance when having it together. Most importantly, I can accept this level of spiciness.

TUMIS KANGKONG BELACHAN👌

Tumis Kangkong Belachan

A stir-fried dish spiced up with sambal belachan is my all-time favorite. So was having some level of expectation of spiciness to make it worth bursting my carbs intake for the day. But it wasn't (only if it can be a little more) although the crunchiness of the kangkong was managed well.

TAHU TELOR👌

The taste of their Signature Tahu Telor wasn't too special for me. The fried egg drop is supposed to be crispy but soggy from soaking in the sweet and nutty sauce. But this is definitely a protein-packed dish for keto dieters like myself.

EMPING BELINJO👍

Emping Belinjo

Dip with a mixture of belachan and lime

Their crispy Emping Belinjo wasn't too bitter like what we can get out there at snack shops. And I learned from this meal that dipping with belachan lime mixture is key to getting a really good taste. Thanks to my colleague for expanding my knowledge bank and a whole new experience for me.

NASI PUTIH PAGI SORE

Nasi Putih Pagi Sore

Rice is a staple food in Indonesian cuisine (of course for others too) and because having Kangkong means you need rice to balance up the flavor. Here it is their steamed white rice wrapped in banana leaves. It looked a little like blue pea rice and was a little coarse on the surface but overall soft.

SIGNATURE CHENDOL👌

Signature Chendol

Ended our lunch with their Signature Chendol. Mixed well to get that creamy, sweet taste coming from the coconut milk and sugar, with their handmade pandan jelly and red beans for some bites. It was really filling and cold because of the shaved ice and the rainy weather. Get ready for a food coma and chilly in the office.
