Food Review | Ah Boon Handmade Fishcake

On my last job, the CEO would buy a big bag of fishcakes to the office for us. And everyone loved it so much because it was so juicy and nice and 1 piece each was never enough, especially for me. NEVER! We always looked forward to him coming up with the big bag (and not empty-handed as it would mean business rather than food). Everyone were saying nice nice but no one dared to ask him where he bought it (me also) and some might think since he paid for it, no need to bother where he bought it. But I thought otherwise because whoever really closed to me would know I love fishballs and fishcakes since young. I can have a small bowl of rice with fishballs or fishcakes. I can also have crispy silverfish with rice too. I'm not kidding.

Until recently, Ah Boon Handmade Fishcake kept popping up on my Facebook feed. Clicked in to take a look and decided to try because one look at their fishcake, I have this feeling that it was the fishcake I have been looking for after I left that job. I received my first order and bingo, it was the juicy fishcake that I'm looking for. Then I texted my ex-colleagues to tell them that this was the fishcake that we had back in our working days together (anyway that CEO also left already so no more fishcake treats for the remaining humans in that company). I regretted buying so little of that juicy fishcakes on my first order. Just afraid it might not be the taste and texture I wanted.

So on my 2nd order, I placed 10 pieces of Chili Fishcakes, along with Rempah Udang which I never tried before, Wonton and Sotong Ball.

Chili Fishcakes, Sotong Balls, Wontons

No need to say much for Chili Fishcakes because even after many hours, it still tasted so fresh, succulent and not dry. I did not warm it up in my airfryer and had it cold. Lazy bum and not sorry for that.

First look at the Sotong Balls, I thought I got my order wrong. Because it looked more like Fishballs and even my husband thought so too. So i tried and luckily, really was Sotong Balls. Can tell between the texture of Fishballs and Sotong Balls. I'm a happy lady now!

If I cook Nasi Lemak at home, the fishcake and sotong ball will go well as sides and dip with sambal chilli. Yummy!

Wontons were okay, like those we can get in the traditional market. Maybe I can use it for my Yong Tau Foo soup. Why not, right? Just throw in with other YTF ingredients. Easy!

Rempah Udang

I saw lots of people raving about this so it must be good although a little pricey in my opinion for 4 pieces per box. Probably the process of making can be quite a fuss.

The taste coming from the hae bee hiam fillings was nice and fragrance with every bite. Savoury! Mister said that only if the fillings could be more. The texture of the glutinous rice 👍👍👍 and well-cooked.

So overall, I will still order their Chili Fishcakes and Rempah Udang. But will look for group buys in my area because if I buy just 2 items, the delivery fee is fixed at $10. Not worthy. May as well I go market buy, right? But not as if I will get the same fresh and quality food.

Order before Thurs 2pm for delivery on the same weekend Saturday. Here is the link: https://take.app/s/6584165668

Enjoy! ✌
