Back After 27 Years: Homemade Mala Pig Blood Soup + BONUS recipe

Since the deadly Nipah virus outbreak in 1999 and the sales ban of a long  27-year , this beloved ingredient, Pig Blood Curd (Blood Tofu) has finally made its official return to our grocery shelves in June 2026 after being approved by Singapore Food Agency. The elderly group of Singapore will definitely feel nostalgic. The moment I spotted it at the supermarket (after many attempts), memories came rushing back. From the first time I had in Hong Kong decade ago and subsequently in Taiwan too.  And immediately bought 4 packs in a row at Giant Supermarket to share with my folks. Now I knew exactly what I had to make for dinner: a fiery, deeply satisfying bowl of Mala Pig Blood Curd Soup . The best part about making this at home? You can customize it completely. Here is how we whipped up this comforting, nostalgic meal in our kitchen. CP Foods has made it possible The Ingredients: Note: The beauty of a homemade mala soup is flexibility! Food Review | New MENU at Shepherd's Pie Singapore

Anyone remember my post on Shepherd's Pie Singapore? Click on the link 🠜 to read up on my post on their Shepherd's Pie which was so good. I never knew the taste until I tried them from Shepherd's Pie Singapore.

All thanks to Best in Singapore for the link-up to try on their latest dishes in the menu: Sienna's Traditional Lasagna (Triplo Cheese) and Nonna's Authentic American Mac'n'Cheese Bacon (Real Cheese)

If you haven't know, Shepherd's Pie Singapore has expanded their menu over the time and now serving not just their most popular dish, Shepherd's Pie, but also Lasagna, Pasta, Pizzas, Burgers, a range of sides and even a section for Vegetarian customers.

Not just that. They are also committed to deliver in an hour (the delivery part never fails) from receiving the order, islandwide. So that all customers get to enjoy hot, freshly made dishes from them.

Soon it will be the festive season (yes... it's Christmas!) so you can order your favourite dishes from them for an intimate party of 5 (oh yes... please follow the Covid-19 rules) and enjoy free delivery when you spend $70 and above (applicable whenever you meet the minimum purchase, not just Christmas only).

Googled on what goes well with Lasagna and Mac'n'Cheese and got back the result: salad. Oh well... I have home-prep salad in my fridge so why not? Pretty simple to prepare with iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, some berries, drizzled with your favourite salad dressing. And let's tuck in.

Nonna's Authentic American Mac'n'Cheese Bacon (Real Cheese)
(2 pax serving)

On first look, it was nicely baked on the top where they drizzled the cheese and the colour was well-balanced. That made us excited to tuck in immediately. It must be tasty.

But when we tucked in, the inside was too dry. The macaroni wasn't cooked properly and there was a taste of bitterness coming from the bacon, which was charred. Kind of disappointed.

Sienna's Traditional Lasagna (Triplo Cheese)
(2 pax serving)

Probably this would be made the saving grace, even though it was like a 3/4 serving of a 2 pax portion. The 1/4 serving was the tomato paste.

The overall taste was decent but I found it a little overpowering coming from the tomato paste (my husband found it okay). And you could see the layers of Lasagna sheets. I understood that a decent Lasagna should have no less than 3-4 layers or filling up the serving dish. So I thought this would pass. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Minced beef taste good with the sauce and my husband felt like having murtabak (referring to the minced beef).

Although it wasn't a satisfying meal, but definitely acknowledging that they made very good Shepherd's Pies, be it the mini ones or the 1-2 pax portion. Am still miss that 'melts in your mouth' experience.

So if you wanna satisfy that craving of yours with some European/Western dishes, now is the time with just a click away here 🠜 and also follow them on Instagram (link here 🠜) for their latest offers.
