New in Singapore: Lentor Modern First Look & Food Guide

There’s always something exciting about checking out a new mall in Singapore, especially one that’s been quietly building buzz before you’ve even stepped foot in the area. This time, I found myself heading to Lentor on a Saturday afternoon, right after wrapping up my online classes, curious to see what this new spot had to offer. I’ll admit, this was my first time exploring the Lentor neighbourhood, so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. Would it feel like a hidden gem, or just another addition to Singapore’s ever-growing list of malls? With a mix of anticipation (and hunger), I set out to explore Lentor Modern , ready to see if its food options, atmosphere, and overall vibe lived up to the hype. In this post, I’ll be sharing my first impressions, what you can expect when visiting, and of course, the food spots that caught my attention. If you’re planning a visit or just curious about what’s new in this part of Singapore, here’s a closer look at Lentor Modern through a foodie’s lens b...

A Durian Lover’s Dream: Trying The Durian Bakery’s Cake & Mochi

(Left to Right) 6" Classic Mao Shan Wang Durian Cake & Snowy Durian Mochi

If you’re a fellow durian lover, you know the season brings with it cravings that only the real deal can satisfy. So when The Durian Bakery — one of Singapore’s go-to names for quality durian treats — sent over their signature durian cake and durian mochi, I couldn’t wait to dig in.

As someone who counts down to durian season every year, I’ve tried my fair share of the king of fruits in all forms — fresh, frozen, in puffs, tarts, you name it. But how do these baked creations hold up to the rich, unmistakable flavour of good durian?

Let’s get into the details.

6" CLASSIC MAO SHAN WANG DURIAN CAKE

Fluffy vanilla chiffon cake coated with rich Hokkaido fresh cream

Let’s start with the star of the show — The Durian Bakery’s Classic Mao Shan Wang Durian Cake, a 6-inch beauty (comes in 8-inch too) that’s a must-try for true-blue durian fans.

This cake is all about balance. The moment you slice in, you’re greeted with a good layer of rich Mao Shan Wang SilkyGold Durian Flesh, sandwiched between light and fluffy vanilla chiffon cake. The contrast is what makes it special — the airy sponge helps carry the intense flavour of the durian without overwhelming your palate.

What really sealed the deal for me? The cake is topped with a layer of white chocolate shavings, adding a touch of sweetness and a soft crunch that complements the creamy durian so well. Every bite delivers that bittersweet MSW punch, but in an elegant and easy to share form (if you’re feeling generous, that is).

Whether you're celebrating a birthday, anniversary, surprising a durian-loving friend, or just a treat for yourself during the season, this cake is an indulgent without being too heavy.

SNOWY D24 DURIAN MOCHI IN BOX OF 6 PIECES

Those squishy mochi

If you love your desserts with a bit of fun and texture, the Snowy D24 Durian Mochi is where it’s at.

Each piece is a soft, squishy pillow of delight — the kind that sticks slightly to your fingers before melting in your mouth. The outer mochi skin is beautifully thin and chewy, giving way to a good filling of D24 durian purée inside. It’s cold, creamy, and absolutely packed with flavour.

The contrast between the stretchy glutinous skin and the smooth, rich durian filling makes every bite addictive. They come bite-sized, and best enjoyed slightly chilled, straight from the fridge.

These mochi are perfect for popping one after another... until you realise the box is suddenly empty (6 pieces are definitely not enough). Highly recommended for durian fans who want something a little different from the usual cake or puff.

So stretchy!

I had my fair share. What about you?

Whether you’re a longtime durian lover or just starting to explore beyond the fresh fruit, The Durian Bakery knows how to elevate durian into something truly special. From the fluffy, decadent Mao Shan Wang cake to the chewy, creamy durian mochi, each bite is a reminder of why we eagerly wait for durian season every year.

If you’re looking to treat yourself (or surprise another durian fanatic), their bakes make a perfect gift — or even just a midweek indulgence.
