Cheers to Great Eats: A Cozy Review of Social Bar & Bistro

There weren't lack of bars, restaurants and even bistro in the Central Business District a.k.a CBD but just what you are looking for: to get drunk or to get good food. For my colleagues and I, we just wanted a good Christmas lunch together. For convenient, this was the chosen one. We had the place entirely to ourselves till the crowd comes in after like 30 to 40 minutes later. So shiok. And natural lightings from the outside, thanks to their windows and also the chic and stylish interior.

THEIR FOOD MENU

Cod & Prawn Croquettes

My colleagues shared the croquettes with me and on first bite, I thought I'm having potato croquettes. I did taste a tiny bite of prawn but mostly, mashed potatoes. Hahaha... but it was good. Crispy on the outside, potatoey on the inside. The potato balls I call it.

Watermelon Splash, Latte and Lychee Rose

Fish & Chips + Slow-Cooked Beef Short Ribs

My order for Fish and Chips (ala carte menu) comes with salad on the side. One chunky size that wasn't too oily and the batter coated was just right. You get to taste the fresh fillet without overly seasoned. The chips were definitely good. Somehow like those at Long John Silvers (oops... fancy comparing it to those of fastfood).

The Slow-Cooked Beef Short Ribs from the Christmas set menu was good! Recommended because it was so tender, like tearing apart so easily. Yes to slow-cooked! My colleague liked that their vegetables were well-cooked and seasoned. Not too mushy. And the smell of truffle coming form the mashed potatoes.

Raspberry Chocolate Pie (I insist I'm eating a tart)

The Christmas Set Menu comes with dessert and may I ask if they can remove the whipped cream and let it be just a normal tart. It will be perfect. Those raspberries reminded me of how affordable they are in Finland. Bought almost every night just for the cheap and healthy dose of antioxidant. This pie (I insist is tart) has a thin layer of raspberry spread 10% underneath the chocolate ganache 90%. And it wasn't too sweet but too full to finish it.

Overall, their Christmas Set Menu 2024 was good for the price of $35++ (not including drinks). My colleagues made the right choice for their main out of the 3 choices. Taste wise wasn't too overwhelming for our taste bud. No wonder sometimes I saw that it was crowded during lunch and even dinner time where all are ready for a drink.

I wish my Company can hold our Christmas party here next time because is just across from our office and convenient for all when we head home.
