Spice Into the New Year: A Start-Work Lunch at Xiang Xiang Hunan Cuisine

Xiang Xiang Hunan Cuisine at 8-10 Mosque Street Happy Lunar New Year to all my readers, wherever you may be. I started work today (19.02.2026). Although not many colleagues were around, I still managed to gather a few close ones for a “start-work lunch” at a fancy restaurant that serves Chinese cuisine. After some discussion, we decided on Xiang Xiang Hunan Cuisine in Chinatown. Even better, it was my first time trying their food. I’ve always known it to be a popular spot with notoriously long queues. Thankfully, we arrived early because right after we were seated, a steady stream of patrons began pouring in. Snacks & Ice Cream Corner for patrons once you enter As we entered the restaurant, we were greeted by the Snacks & Ice Cream Corner located opposite the waiting area. I didn’t even realize it was there until we were about to leave! My colleagues especially loved the Golden Horn Snack, but I thought both options, including the Crispy Crust, were equally good. And yes, that...

Food Review - Casa Vostra at Raffles City

I let my picky bestie to choose what she wants to have for dinner on our hang out day. Since she has a craving for pizza, here we are at Casa Vostra. The restaurant was already packed with diners, not including those still waiting in queue. And I arrived at the right timing as she was next in queue. So do come early or avoid the peak hours. Newly opened on 27 July 2024, that explains the crowd waiting to try new eats. Slowly the hype will die down so don't need to hurry for a piece of them. Patience is a virtue.

Probably because it was new, there is a dining duration of 60 minutes. Luckily they served up fast so within an hour, we were done with our meal. Shared all our picks to avoid overeat and of course, we have our obvious favourite. Read on to find out in this short post.

Anyway I will not introduce much of this restaurant because it should be all over the social media of their opening of this brick and mortar restaurant. Just google, CASA VOSTRA SINGAPORE.

PIZZA

Hands down to the nicest kind of pizza that we loved. The pizza was so soft that we have to roll it  up to eat. Unlike those from other pizza joints, their pizza was thin and also airy on the crust. If you wanna say crispy, not really unless you are talking about the airy crust. Oh it has a chewy texture as you tore it with your mouth. Topped with simple yet quality ingredients like San Marzano DOP tomatoes from Italy (wasn't too rich nor sour), Fiordilatte milk cheese and fresh basils.

PASTA

Expect the usual garlicky taste with every mouthful of the pasta, with a good portion of tender crab meat chunks. Felt the oiliness on your lips and into your mouth from the fragrance olive oil used. Surprisingly nice tomato confit which supposed was made through slow-cooking in olive oil and herbs. It didn't lose the tomatoey taste during the process. Overall a decent dish but I'm not a fan of Tagliatelle even though it was handmade from scratch. Only if they have pasta options for diners to choose.

ANTIPASTI

It was kind of disappointing because I found it overly fried to even say it was crispy. It has the crunch but a hard crunch. And the squids used were too small (though I know it will shrink as we cook or fry it) but the batter coated over it was fine.

I conclude that you should prioritize your visit to Casa Vostra with one or two of their pizzas. The rest in the menu isn't important at all. Oh remember to order a beer to go with your pizza. It is a match-made from heaven. Enjoy!
