1826 | Food Review

[THROWBACK SEPTEMBER 2022]

Another new hunt that was searched by my girlfriend and so here we are, for a catch up dinner and ladies talk that few hours. At 1826, they have al fresco seating so choose between that and indoor seating. Now with lesser rain, I think you can go for outdoor because of its night view while chilling out with your friends. I like this restaurant's ambience, those dimly lighted places with nice music (prefer Jazz). I hope I can try all the restaurants at Boat Quay when I'm still working in this area because of its convenient. Let's find out what they have in the menu, a mix of East and West fusion food or should I say more like localized food?

DRY LAKSA $21

Dry Laksa served in vermicelli, something different from the usual thick beehoon or yellow noodles. This was quite unique in a way as it felt like I'm having Mee Siam? Topped with tiger prawns, along with the light taste of hae bee hiam. When mixed together with the sauce, it has that coarse texture running in your mouth.

Since we had one main course only (in my opinion), let's get started with the finger food (or snacks/appetizers they categorized it).

BONELESS CHICKEN TENDERS $16

The Boneless Chicken Tenders were good as it wasn't heavily battered and you got to taste the tenderness of the meat. And it was succulent too.

PEPPER CALAMARI NIBBLES $17

On the hand, this Calamari Nibbles were kind of disappointing. Is that the reason why a dipping sauce was provided because I just felt tasteless from the chewing? I'm one who didn't like dipping with sauce and wanting to try my food on its own, at its original state when served.

STRAIGHT CUT FRIES $13

Nothing much to talk about when it comes to fries. You either choose a normal fries or truffle fries and my favourite is the latter. I don't understand too when some said truffle has that gasoline smell. But I'm just loving it.

CREAMY GARLIC BUTTER CLAMS $21

Tell me if I'm missing out on good food because I don't really like any shellfishes (except prawns and crabs) because I find them a little too raw to look at, even when cooked thoroughly. Probably I will try again next time at other seafood places. And yes, I'm a selective food blogger (oh selective...). Okay go try it yourself. My friends find it decent.

WHITE GRAPE AND PASSIONFRUIT BEER $9 (HAPPY HOUR PRICE)

Mild sweetness coming from this limited edition beer. Nice try if you want something different from the usual beer and it was only $9 during Happy Hour.

Before we went off, my girlfriend bought a takeout for their XO Abacus Seeds $23. She said it tasted like Bak Chor Mee? Wonder how it ended up tasting like our local favourite noodle dish. Anyway, it all depends on individual taste bud (I have been saying that way too many times). Enjoy your night at 1826!
