A Chinese New Year Birthday Dinner at Yum Cha Chinatown

We made our way to Chinatown to soak in the upcoming Chinese New Year vibes while celebrating our friend’s birthday with dinner. We were meant to go to a café, but it turned out to be closed—the article my friend found was from 2020. After wandering around for a last-minute option, we ended up at Yum Cha, which turned out to be a great choice since it was a light and shareable meal. The moment we sat down and ordered, the crowd began to flow in. It was dinner time during the upcoming Chinese New Year, so many companies were out for a 收工飯 o r a celebratory meal for the new working year. As a result, the restaurant got pretty noisy, with conversations buzzing from every table. Loved this preserved cucumbers to the fullest X.O Fried Carrot Cake with Shrimp I’ve loved this dish for as long as I can remember, especially because the thicker pieces of carrot cake add extra texture. Instead of frying the eggs with the carrot cake, they’re added as a garnish on top. Paired with some fresh praw...

Support Local | Finally...

After my previous post to urge Singaporeans to support our local brands and products, finally today 8 Apr 2020, our Government is doing something in this area.

Our Government should not just help our Singapore farmers for the next 6 to 24 months, it should be a continuous or long term effort because *touchwood* you never know what will happen or when another such situation will happen again. I wish such pandemic will never happen again but who can predict right?

In the news, they also acknowledge that 'Local food production mitigates our reliance on imports and provides a buffer in the event of food supply disruptions.' Exactly the message that I wanted to put forward to Singaporeans in my previous post. This is a sense of security for every Singaporean and it also creates job for Singaporeans too. And maybe when they learn about agriculture through working on the field, chances that they can or will start their own farm too, to provide local supply and maybe can supply to other countries too. Exports of our Singapore grown vegetables, eggs and so on. Don't you feel more proud? Then the gap between the rich and the poor will close up even more. This is not a dream but it is doable.

You have to agree with me on this. We can plant our own chilli, tomato and herbs at home right? So can make it a bigger scale right? All you need is a land, money, manpower, machinery and most importantly, the seeds of fruits and vegetables. Okay a little worry on weather though. But there can be a way out. How the end product taste like is another thing. As you can see from the past panic buying at supermarkets, nobody cares liao. So long as can use, people will buy. Now our country got a lot of stock piling at household. Haha...

But then again, we are brought up this way: study hard, get a degree, get a high paying job and so on.

Who will want to work in the field under a hot weather?

That is why our Singapore education system is changing every now and then.
I hope the parents' mindset also change altogether. So long as they grow up be a useful person, don't steal don't rob, earn money with their hard work and not those illegal stuff, then let them do what they want using their skills and creativity.

Nothing to be ashamed of to be a farmer. You own a land and earn your money from hard work. Also you are your own boss. Not like you are shaking legs and get money doing nothing.

Can't blame anyone to actually realize only at this critical time what we are lacking in Singapore. Or maybe they know but not much effort yet. Because everyone has to admit that we are too reliance on foreign products/imports. Almost every single thing that we use in our daily life are foreign more than local products. Do you know how pathetic it is? I'm ashamed of myself too.

Okay never mind. Finally some effort now. So Singaporeans, please unite. #SupportLocal
